Katie’s Testimony

April 20, 2018

My name is Katie Scott and I am 28 years old. I was raised in a very stable household in Houston. I grew up going to church with my family, and was saved at an early age. I knew who Jesus was, but tried desperately over the years to live life in my own strength, therefore lacking a personal relationship with Him. At the age of 18, I started using prescription medications which eventually led to the use of heroin and methamphetamines. For 8 years I was bound by the chains of addiction. My life was saturated in sin and my behavior was beyond destructive. I was so incredibly broken, ashamed, and without hope. John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy: I came that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” I was arrested in August 2016, and hit a breaking point. I finally surrendered fully to God, fixed my eyes upon Jesus, and He led me to Grace House.

Matthew 11:28 says “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” For 9 months I was able to fully rest in the presence of the Lord. I have experienced the love of God and His amazing mercy and grace in its purest form. I’ve learned who Jesus Christ really is, and who He is to me- my Savior, my Redeemer and my King! I have a new identity in Christ, not just one of a hopeless addict. (2 Corinthians 5:17) He has begun to reconcile and restore relationships in my family that I alone could have never put back together.

The Lord has been so good to me and is so loving and faithful. I have found freedom in Jesus and I am forever changed!  His light shines in me and through me and He is now the Lord of my life. The joy of the Lord is my strength! John 8:12- When Jesus spoke again to the people He said. “I am the light of the world, whoever follows after me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Upon my graduation, I was invited to become an Intern at Grace House and after some thought and prayer said yes. Now God has given me the opportunity to serve others as they go through the Grace House program!
