My name is Lindsey Acosta. I’m 28 years old and I am from Groesbeck TX.
I grew up in a normal family for the most part. As a kid I was in softball, cheerleading, and tumbling. I remember going to church with my grandma and her wanting to make sure I knew who Jesus was. I had a good childhood.
When I was 15 a traumatic event in my life changed everything about me. I started drinking. I was hanging out with people I knew I wasn’t supposed to. I quit going to school. I just stopped caring about everything. At 16 I took my first prescription painkiller and very quickly fell into an addiction that would last for 11 long years,
In October 2016, I attempted suicide, and in June of 2017 my dad passed away. After that my addiction completely spiraled out of control.I started stealing to support it. My life continued on this way until December of 2022 when my grandma caught me stealing from her yet again and she finally had enough. She told me I need to get help and this time I listened.
I arrived at Grace House on December 27th 2022, broken and scared. In my addiction I had convinced myself that what I was was an addict, and that was all I was ever going to be. I knew I could never feel happy again so numb would have to do. During my stay at Grace House, I have not only been able to get sober, but I have been able to realize that my addiction was only a physical symptom of some much deeper problems that I have been able to safely work through.
More importantly I now know that I have somewhere so much better to take my troubles to… JESUS. Being at Grace House has allowed me to build my relationship with Jesus, and to truly understand just how much He loves me. I now have a peace I have never experienced before and I know that God has a purpose for my life.
Lindsey graduated from our program in September of 2023. While at Grace House she worked the program with excellence. Thanks to our very important dental fund, she was provided dental care, had 16 teeth extracted as well as a beautiful dental restoration.
